Backing up your important files
This blog entry was posted on: 10 January 2010.
Even if you have only been using computers for a short while, you will have likely encountered that disaster scenario where important files become lost. It can be very frustrating when you lose work, and those who have had the misfortune to do so quickly realise the importance of taking regular backups.
You can take a backup of your files manually, but as many know, this can be quite a tedious task (and is probably the reason why so many people neglect to backup their work in the first place). An alternative is to use software to backup your files, thereby taking the strain and monotony out of the process.
Thankfully a number of software solutions exist that are easy to use, automated and effective. Our Free Backup Software category features some of the best, but we also highlight a few below:
Paragon offers a free backup solution for home usage. Their “Backup & Recovery 10 Free Edition” is a highly capable backup tool that uses a simple “wizard” interface.

Another popular and completely free solution is TODO Backup. This program acts as a restore utility, allowing you to revert your system to an earlier moment in time. It also makes it easy to take an “image” of your computer, so you can backup your entire PC as you wish.
GFI Backup is one of our favourites, and allows you to save files automatically as a .zip. In addition, you can set a backup location and schedule, then sit back safe in the knowledge that your specified files are being duplicated to a safe location.
