Free seeds - Time to get gardening!
This blog entry was posted on: 16 March 2010.
The BBC is currently campaigning to entice more people to grow tasty food in their garden. If you think supermarket fruit and vegetables are fresh, it might be time to take a closer look. In fact, various documentary programmes have highlighted the very opposite. Produce billed as fresh can often be sitting idle for a number of days.
If you fancy growing your own instead (and there are many reasons why you might like to get in on the act), it’s easy to get started. Growing fruit and veg is not only fun, it provides a constant supply of good quality organic food without the chemicals, and it beats paying over the odds for produce. Better still, it’s often far tastier and manages to retain all those healthy nutrients.
A number of promotions have been available in recent years, with numerous campaigns both for children and ‘grown-ups’. To help kick-start your gardening, the BBC is offering free seeds to UK visitors. Grab them while you can, because we think they’ll go very quickly indeed!
Just some of the things you can grow include: carrots, tomatoes, courgettes, French beans, apples, pears, and more. Of course, there are some restrictions, the weather being the obvious one. Even so, there should still be plenty to get your teeth into (quite literally in fact!).
