How to set up a simple website
This blog entry was posted on: 20 January 2010.
Getting yourself up and running with a website is actually quite straight-forward. Even if you have little Internet experience and lack technical knowledge, countless free services exist that automate the process for you. Perhaps the most common format in the last few years have been blogs. Hardly a day goes by without a mention of “blogging”, “blogs” or “bloggers”, and the popularity is rightly justified. Blogs allow users to gain a presence on the Internet quickly and easily. If you want to publish articles on the Web, a blog is an excellent choice. You can also add text, pictures, and link out to sites that may be of interest to visitors.
Many of the large free homepage providers still tend to offer a mixture of features, including photo galleries, guestbooks, counters, and WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editors. However, the majority are now focusing on providing a blog service.
Google’s Blogger is arguably the most popular, but services such as Tripod, which offers an instant photo gallery site plus a blog, is also worth investigating. Webs.com and Weebly are famous for their simplistic approach, which so many newbies appreciate when making their first site. You can also try 21Publish and WordPress.com. Both are capable free blog services.
