Some Great Microsoft Office Alternatives
This blog entry was posted on: 11 February 2010
If you are thinking of purchasing a copy of Microsoft Office, hold fire for just a moment. Similarly, if you already use Office and are in the market for an alternative, be sure to check out this gem of a program: OpenOffice.org.
If you haven’t already downloaded and installed this completely free productivity suite, you may be wondering what all the fuss is about. (Understandable, since Microsoft’s “Office” is firmly placed as the number one program of its kind in homes and offices the world over). Many people have never even considered an alternative, and there are some excellent ones to be had. In fact, one of the free alternatives we feature below could easily become your favourite!
Take OpenOffice.org: an open-source and free productivity suite, featuring a word processor, spreadsheet, database builder, presentation package, graphics software and more. It is easy-to-use and highly capable, and can save you a considerable sum of money. This is especially the case if you run a business and need to install multiple copies on multiple machines. It will never cost you a penny, regardless of how large your organisation may be. Furthermore, OpenOffice.org can open and save files in the Microsoft Office format, so you’ll still be able to share documents with colleagues who use other software.
Another free office program to investigate is Lotus Symphony. Lotus have been in the productivity suite industry for many years and have produced some superb work, including the once highly popular Lotus 1.2.3. They are now offering an entire office suite completely free of charge.
When times are hard, it can make perfect sense to switch to FREE. What are you waiting for? For more great downloads visit our Free Software section.
