Storing Your Files Online

A number of free services exist that enable you to store files on the Web. If you usually carry around a portable USB drive, it could be very worthwhile to try another method, either as a replacement for, or in tandem with, your existing solution. Not only is online storage convenient, it is safe, secure, and allows you to access your work from anywhere with an Internet connection.
Online file storage can also be useful as a backup facility. A remote Web-based backup coupled with a local copy greatly increases your ability to recover data in the event of a disaster.
A service that we particularly like is Dropbox, a highly acclaimed file storage solution that’s also completely free. Best of all, their optional “uplink” feature – which allows you to upload files directly from your desktop - functions on Windows, Linux and Mac. They also offer 2GB of storage space as standard, which should be plenty for general home usage.
Another provider is Humyo, who offer even more space (10GB to be exact). A number of commercial solutions are offered here, should you need additional storage space or advanced features.
