Free Counters and Website Trackers

Welcome to FreebieList.com's Free Counters and Trackers section. If you've built a Web site, a counter is a very important piece of kit to have. Without it, you will not be able to monitor how many visitors you're receiving. Below, we review a wide range of free counter services, from traditional hit counters that simply track numbers of visitors, to more sophisticated trackers, which monitor all kinds of visitor information, such as the browser version a person is using, the country they're located in, or which search phrases they typed in to find your site. The majority of the free counters we review below also monitor referring sites, so you can see who's sending you the most traffic. A number of these services also provide password protected statistics, so you can keep your visitor numbers away from prying eyes! If you happen to stumble across an outdated link, we'd very much appreciate it if you could report it.

Amazing Counters

This fantastic free hit counter service is one of the best we've seen in a long while. Amazing Counters includes over 350 counter styles to choose from and also provides Web site statistics (so you can privately view your traffic history), along with a free invisible counter, should you choose not to display a counter image. Registering for a free counter here is quick and easy.

newBravenet Hit Counter

If you've just started a Web site, a counter is one of those "must have" services. Otherwise you'll have no clue how many people are visiting your pages, what sites they were referred from, or if you're successful in growing your traffic. Bravenet's Hit Counter provides a comprehensive round-up of statistics along with a handful of groovy designs. Simply copy and paste some HTML and you're all set.

newFreeusersonlinecounter.com

An advert-free, feature rich counter service for Webmasters, allowing users to monitor - in real-time - the number of visitors a site receives and what country the visitors originated from. The counter can easily be added to any site or blog via a small snippet of HTML code. Once integrated into a page, it will also display the number of visitors currently online.

Flagcounter.com

Here's an interesting take on the Web site hit counter. Rather than displaying boring old numbers (or no counter at all - in the case of invisible counters), Flagcounter.com clearly displays your stats according to country. The free counter sits on your page in a small box and highlights the top 12 countries your visitors are arriving from. Ideal for personal homepages!

ShinyStat

Tracking your site's visitors is very important if you're a Webmaster and this service offers a free counter for users operating "not for profit" sites. ShinyStat provides a neat overview of your site's statistics and logs information such as referring sites, unique visitors, page views, search keywords, etc. Perhaps the only real downside is the "free" counter cannot be made invisible.

eXTReMe Tracking

This veteran Web site tracking service has been online for over 10 years and continues to provide accurate and real-time visitor information. Using this fine (and free) service, you can track an extensive amount of information about your visitors, including daily/monthly totals and averages, top referrers, browser types, search engine keywords, operating systems, countries, etc. What's more, there is also no limitation on traffic, so you can track as many visitors as you like. Our only gripe is the lack of password protection on their "free" package.

Site Meter Basic

This established tracker service is a reliable and efficient method to monitor your site visitors. SiteMeter allows you to monitor unique visitors, page views, referrals, visitor location, system information (i.e. browser and OS), entry and exit pages, "visitors online now", and also other information. The tracker also allows users to monitor trends and then draw comparisons (i.e. you may wish to compare the current week with a historical one to see if there has been any improvement).

StatsRely.com

This site provides an excellent free counter service that's useful for monitoring your Web site's traffic levels. StatsRely.com's counter is very easy to install and only requires a snippet of HTML code in order to function. It displays detailed statistics, such as the number of unique visitors you're receiving, referring sites, keywords, country of origin, browser type, etc. No adverts will be displayed on your site's pages.

Free-Counter.com

They offer real-time statistics, and track daily hits, unique visitors, referrers, search engines, system info, visitor countries, etc. Using this service, you can also password protect your stats. You are required to place small button image on all the pages you wish to monitor.
> An invisible counter is now available at AddFreeStats, completely free of charge. If you're registering for the first time, you can specify the type of counter when you sign-up. Existing users can switch to the invisible option by selecting the option in their control panel.
> Whilst AddFreeStats logs an impressive amount of information on site visitors, accessing the administration area can be tedious due to the longwinded log-in process and amount of pop-up advertisements.

Sparklit Counter

Amongst other free Webmaster services, Sparklit.com offers a reliable and fully functional free hit counter. They provide over 100 counter styles to choose from, however, don't provide any detailed statistical information. You'll find this tracker professional and very easy to install on your site. If you get stuck or need more information, go to their free support forum.
> Other Webmaster services available include a message board, guest book, newsletter, Web poll, and survey builder.

Webcounter.ws

This service is ad-supported via a small, non-obtrusive advertisement.

TrafficFile

TrafficFile's "bronze" service is completely free and offers a reliable tracker that counts unique visitor totals for the last seven days. You can even cheat the number of visitors so it looks like you have a high traffic site, however, sites containing adult or other inappropriate material will have their account(s) locked and possibly deleted.
