Free MIDI and WAV Sounds

In this category, FreebieList.com takes a look at the Internet's best free WAV and MIDI sound files. If you happen to stumble across an outdated link, we'd very much appreciate it if you could report it.

I Love WAVs - Provides a collection free WAV sounds, including an entertaining mixture of comedy answering machine WAVs (how about having Basil Faulty, Austin Powers or Elvis answer your phone?). Besides this, they also offer a range of WAVs from commercials, cartoons, politics and stand-up comedy. There's also a category for kids and a section of computer event sounds, which includes messenger and "PC shut down" sounds.
> I Love WAVs is quite a quirky site and injects its own piece of fun into proceedings! If you're a WAV file fan, we're sure you're going to love this site.

Karaoke-Best.net - This site offers a huge database of free karaoke MIDI files. Over a hundred MIDI versions of songs performed by the top artists and bands are featured here, along with reviews of free karaoke software. A list of the most requested artists are featured on their homepage, although additional MIDI files can be downloaded by completing a simple and free registration. Karaoke-Best.net is also completely free of spam and pop-ups.

OneMusic Sound Samples - At BBC Radio 1's "OneMusic" pages you can download tons of free music samples in the WAV file format (ideal for creating your own digital music tracks). You'll find drum beats, bass effects, instrumentals and also pads. If you're creating a particular type of music, you may also search by genre (house, dance, drum and base, hip hop and garage effects are all featured). The site also allows you to preview each sound in RealPlayer before you download them.

FreeMidis.net - A well-designed site offering a wide range of MIDI sounds that you can either download to your computer or use on a karaoke machine. Simply select the artist's song you're looking for and a list of MIDI files will be displayed. In most cases this will be a list of the artist's most popular songs. Please note: once you have downloaded a MIDI file from this site, you will need a compression tool such as WinZip or WinRar to extract it.

The Daily WAV - The Daily WAV serves up a different WAV sound file every day of the week. You can also search through past sound archives to see ones which you have missed or search for a WAV sound by entering the first letter of the title. The site is bright and very easy to use and makes use of drop down boxes. They also have a links section and a collection of MIDI files for you to browse through and download.

FREE Midi.com - Here's a directory-style site with a simple, fast-loading design. FREEMidi.com provides an easy way to find sites that offer free MIDI sounds and other related resources, such as sound freeware, tablature, hardware and more. Top rated Web sites are separated into their own category, as are the coolest listings and the newest. We've found this site to be one of the best of its kind on the Web for locating free MIDI files.

Jahozafat.com - At this site, you'll find thousands of free WAV sounds from movies, television and cartoons. Each WAV file listing includes a description of what the sound entails, whether it is a simple sound effect or an entertaining conversation from a film. Their collection of The Simpsons WAV files is particularly impressive, with sounds from all the most popular characters being featured.

WAV List.com - Find a list of WAVs at WAVList.com (just like you find a list of freebies, here at FreebieList.com). This complete directory features a large collection of WAV files, ranging from television shows (e.g. Bevis & Butt Head, Garfield, Peanuts, The Simpsons) to celebrity voices. There's also a message board here and a rather comprehensive trivia and "other links" section.

Lockergnome’s Christmas MIDIs - It can be quite a chore finding a good MIDI site on the Net nowadays, particularly as other sound formats such as MP3 are getting easier to acquire. With this in mind, FreebieList.com has took great care to find a quality collection, and here it is! Lockergnome.com (provider of some interesting technology newsletters) has Jingle Bells, Silent Night and many more.
