Crimson Editor - A powerful (and free) source code editor for Microsoft Windows operating systems. Crimson Editor is ideal for writing HTML, PHP, Perl, Java, Matlab and many other programming languages. The program features a spellchecker and built-in FTP client, which allows you to upload files without switching programs. Colour coded syntax and tabbed document browsing allows you to read your code with ease. The file size of this program is very small indeed (so small that it can fit on a floppy disk!).

Edit Pad - This useful freeware program goes far beyond that of Windows Notepad and combines some interesting HTML and text editing features. With Edit Pad, you can open multiple documents at once and save them directly in the correct format. Multiple language versions are also available, plus we've found the application equally as good for tweaking CGI scripts, editing HTML documents and displaying .txt files.

NoteTab Light - A leading text and HTML editor that can handle much larger files than Windows Notepad. It allows you to build document templates, covert text to HTML, create programs and do much more besides. With its "tabbed" interface you can open numerous documents at once or use the program as a clipboard. This freeware version is totally free and has no irritating advertisements.

Crimson Editor - A powerful and freeware source code editor for Microsoft Windows NT and higher. Crimson Editor, which can act as a superior replacement for Windows Notepad, is ideal for writing HTML, Perl and Java languages, and even features syntax highlighting for HTML, C/C++, Perl, Java, Matlab and LaTeX. A spellchecker is included in the program, along with options such as "undo", "redo" and macros. File size is 1.2 MB.

Tag Check - This freeware program will check your HTML Web site coding for errors, then suggest ways you can improve it. The "Tag Check" setup file usually downloads in less than a minute on a standard 56k modem, and covers common spelling and coding mistakes into its HTML database. Note: Tag Check is not as detailed as some commercial programs, but ideal for general, everyday use.

Web Crafter - Web Crafter is a great freeware HTML editor for Windows 95 or later and features plenty of tools to aid in manual HTML coding. Toolbars with common functions, wizards, built-in Web browsers and FTP client are all included here, plus a file explorer tool and colour-to-HEX converter. The program and setup files are compressed in a ZIP file and require a compression tool (such as WinZip) to open.

Text 2 HTML - This entirely free program will convert your text files to HTML documents with great ease. It features a command line interface and handles FTP, HTTP and MAILTO tags. Additionally, Text 2 HTML has a simple, but easy to use "drag, drop and launch" interface, making it ideal for inexperienced users. This small but useful freeware application has received various awards from numerous software Web sites.
